GM No Longer Requires Onstar on 2024 GMC

GM No Longer Requires OnStar 2024 Buick GMC Models

It's A Win for Car Buyers.

OnStar Premium is an excellent system to have, but not everyone wants it. The good news is GM no longer requires OnStar on 2024 GMC models. Come to Greg Lair GMC and take a look at the latest models.

What Happened Last Year

In 2022 GM started selling three years of OnStar service as a standard feature on all GMC vehicles. Buyers could refuse the service, but the cost of it was still part of the base price of their vehicle. Since most people choose to get the OnStar subscription anyway, GM thought that making it standard would simplify the process and make getting and setting up the service more convenient.

What Is OnStar Premium

The option that GM made standard was their OnStar and Connected Services Premium Plan. This plan provides drivers with three years of access to a variety of services, including roadside assistance, vehicle diagnostics, automatic crash response, and a remote key fob. It also gives customers access to turn-by-turn directions and a high-speed Wi-Fi hotspot for access to the internet. Before this change, buyers who purchased a new GM were offered a free trial subscription, and they could choose whether or not they wanted to continue their subscription.

So, What's the Deal For 2024 Models

For the 2024 model year, GM is changing how they go about offering OnStar Premium. Instead of making it standard for all models, it will only offer it on the high-end GMC Denali vehicles. The reason for this? Well, first of all, it's a premium product, so it should be saved for premium vehicles.

GM is also taking rising prices and high interest rates into account. These factors along with low inventory and some supply issues are making it more difficult for people to buy new vehicles. With OnStar once again an optional feature on the lower-end trims, it will help consumers get into the vehicle they want at a price they can better afford.

Will OnStar Premium Be Standard on Any Vehicles?

In addition to the upscale Denali models, OnStar Premium will come with the GMC Hummer EV. All the other GM models will now go back to offering it as an option. Instead of the standard Premium version of OnStar the lower trims will come with OnStar Remote Access. This is a new system that links the GM vehicle to a mobile app, but it doesn't come with all the premium services. It still offers some extras though, with OnStar Remote Access you can start your GM from your phone, lock or unlock the doors, and even find its location on a map and then share routes with the vehicle's navigation system.
